You've got spiritual constipation, and it's costing you

Short version

YOU ARE CONSTIPATED, and you're paying a high price for it!

Most of us spend our lives like ants in a line, following a perfectly straight path because we're terrified of what would happen if we actually did the things we dream about. We tell ourselves we're being responsible, but really we're just building a cage.

Yes, we've got an endless stream of bills. Yes, the world is chaotic. But you've also got a responsibility to LIVE.

Stop letting your ego tell you what the neighbours think, because your neighbours are listening to their own egos telling them what you think. It's completely mad!

Long version

I've spent thousands of hours looking into the private rooms of people's souls and spirits, and if there's one thing I've learnt, it's this:

Most people are terrified of their own potential.

We spend so much energy trying to be tidy and organised that we accidentally squeeze the life out of ourselves. We follow the ants-in-a-line path because it feels safe. We think that if we just stay in the box, we won't get hurt.

That's a terrible lie.

Clinging to that lie isn't safety; it's a cage. It's a spiritual constipation that stops you ever being able to say, at the end of your life, that you actually lived.

"But Simon, I have responsibilities!"

I know you do. I talk about the daily grind all the time. You've got bills to pay, an ex to keep sweet, and those new skis the kids or grandkids are screaming for, just because f*cking Markus got new skis. That's physical reality.

But you've got another responsibility that's just as unavoidable and, in my view, absolutely crucial: the responsibility to yourself.

You can be a functioning adult in this daft world and still follow the person you secretly long to be. It's about balance. It's about turning down the volume on your ego. Show it that being a bit more of who you want to be isn't just safe, it's actually fun and rewarding.

Your ego is a suit of armour stitched together from trauma, insecurity and expectation. It's the voice shouting, "I can't do that!", "What will they think?" or "I'll look stupid." It lives on comparison and needs to feel better than, or safe from, other people in order to exist.

When you step out of your cage, people will get the hump.

They'll feel jealous, envious or bitter. Why? Because you're holding up a mirror to their own cage. Your freedom makes them realise their own bars are made of nothing but fear. Their bitterness isn't about you; it's about their own secret, longing self that they're too frightened to let out.

Here's an example of how I stepped out of my cage.

The first time I stood on stage as a medium, it was to a packed house, a hall with a couple of hundred people in it. I was so nervous that the first thing out of my mouth when I got to the microphone was one word: "F*ck."

It echoed round the whole hall and everybody heard it.

Did I look stupid? Probably. But people laughed, and life carried on.

What goes on in our heads, what the ego tells us, is always far worse than reality. I did something I was frightened of, something other people said I couldn't do, and I survived. That was 15 years ago.

Here's how you find the balance:

Handle the grind. Do what you have to do to keep your personal universe running: the bills, the kids, the partner. Otherwise you won't feel you deserve your reward, which is being you.

Consult your spirit, your intuition. Remember that the part of you worrying about the neighbours is just your ego running a programme. The real you, your spirit (your intuition), is the one actually holding the remote control.

Wallow in your cosy weirdness. Your oddness is where your intuition breathes and your soul starts to wake up. Take 15 minutes every day to be exactly who you are, no mask.

Don't ignore who you are. Do the daily grind because you must. But live life on your own terms. Don't be a pale copy of everybody else's fear.

Be exactly as odd (and as wonderful) as you were meant to be. Exercise your right to be strange, and your absolute right to be YOU.

Simon
