Gratitude is a pig in a party frock
Short version
We're all supposed to "live a life of gratitude". WTF? What does that actually mean?
I don't think we can simply leapfrog everything and go straight to gratitude whilst life itself, the finances, our health and the people around us are still a chaotic mess.
Gratitude is what we get to enjoy once those things are actually sorted.
I can live in gratitude when I've shut the office, fed the kids, checked their pockets before the washing and got a loaf out of the freezer. Then I can live in gratitude.
Long version
What on earth does living a life of gratitude actually mean? And what good does it really do us?
Here's my problem with it: gratitude is something we get to enjoy when life is actually working. It isn't a substitute for a functioning life.
We can't just skip over the bit where the finances, the health or whatever else is a mess, and go straight to "right, now I'm going to live in gratitude". That isn't spirituality. That's a pig in a party frock, still standing knee-deep in the same mud.
I'm not saying you have to be a billionaire before gratitude counts. I'm saying you have to sort out what the actual problem is first.
When the boring, unglamorous things, the money, the health, the people around us, are roughly where they ought to be, then gratitude actually means something, because we've got a real foundation under it. Then we've got enough left in the tank to go out and help somebody else find a bit of joy, instead of sitting on the sofa wishing it into existence.
I'm all for being grateful for the world around me, and I genuinely am, just about every single day. But it never seems to arrive until I've trudged through the daily grind first.
So, dear Facebook folk, let's tackle our very down-to-earth problems first, whatever they happen to be. The gratitude will still be standing there waiting for us afterwards, and it'll mean infinitely more when it isn't dressed up as a pig in a party frock.
Have a week full of getting things sorted, you lovely people 🥰🙏 and then we can be grateful together on Friday!
Simon

Advert: READINGS COST 1,500kr. They are personal, specific and detailed. I make a point of writing down exactly what I see; I don't change it in any way to make it easier to read. Every reading is longer than 2 A4 pages and takes at least two hours to write. I give each reading the respect it deserves and the time it needs, whether that's two hours or six. I've worked as a psychic, medium and healer for nearly thirty years, I love what I do, and I'm proud of it. If you'd like a reading, send me a message on Messenger and we'll take it from there. If you're feeling brave, Vipps to number 469 46 054 and send me a message afterwards. I work through each reading in the order it comes in. Hope your week's going well, Facebook folks!
