Edward woke me at 05:38 and handed me a mile in somebody else's shoes

Short version

I have a rule: nobody from the spirit world is allowed to come through between 11pm and 8am unless it's a genuine emergency.

At 05:38 this morning my Helper, Edward, broke the rule to hand over an insight I'd asked for weeks ago. An understanding, right down to actually feeling it, of exactly why somebody did something I'd judged as cold and calculated, only to discover it was desperate self-defence.

When I asked him later why he'd woken me in the middle of the night, he just said "got to keep you on your toes" and vanished.

Long version

Most of you know I have a rule: nobody from the spirit world is allowed to come through to me after 11pm or before 8am. It's completely black and white.

It took the spirit world a while to actually respect that boundary, but it's held for a couple of decades now.

There's one exception. If it's a genuine emergency, something that really does need my immediate attention, somebody gets through. But they'd better have a very, very good reason.

At 05:38 this morning, my Helper Edward woke me up.

At 05:38 I am as grumpy as it is humanly possible to be. That isn't just a fact, it's a threat.

Edward and I have the sort of relationship where we spend most of our time nagging and bickering at each other, except in the moments that actually matter. When it counts, we're unbeatable, and we'd both go through fire and water for the other.

So when Edward woke me at 05:38, which is an absolute rarity, I was wide awake and he had my full attention.

It turned out he'd woken me to give me something. Something I'd asked for help with a couple of weeks ago.

When a Helper gives you something, it feels a bit like a download. It all happens at once, with no build-up and no processing time. Just sudden knowing, and it's usually big.

BIG... that word is useless. It's closer to that moment in The Matrix where Neo suddenly says, "I know Kung Fu." Except I promise you: this morning I definitely did not learn Kung Fu.

You know the saying, don't judge somebody until you've walked a mile in their shoes? This morning Edward gave me that walk. Properly.

All at once I understood that person's perspective, and more than that, I saw what they saw, and most importantly I felt how they felt, and it was awful.

What I'd assumed was a cold, calculated, unkind act by somebody in my circle turned out to be a desperate attempt at self-defence.

Walking a mile in their shoes didn't just give me information. It completely changed how I see them and what they did.

Anyway. Why the hell did Edward wake me at that ungodly hour?

Because he could. I'm not joking. Around 7am I asked him outright why he'd woken me so early to give me this. He just said, "Got to keep you on your toes," and vanished.

Love him! Hate him!

Anyway, the point is that I walked in somebody else's shoes this morning. Properly. I saw, heard and felt what they were going through, from their side of it.

It was hard to sit with. But some of the most important things we need to understand are also sometimes the hardest to actually experience.

It took me hours to feel functional again afterwards, so I choose to believe Edward woke me early on purpose to make sure it didn't eat into my working day. Or at least, that's the version I tell myself.

If there's a lesson in any of this, it's this: next time you're absolutely certain you understand why somebody did something hurtful, entertain the thought that maybe you don't. Not properly. Not until you've stood where they stood.

It doesn't excuse everything. But it changes what you're actually looking at.

Wishing you a week where somebody surprises you, beautiful Facebook people.

Simon

Advert: READINGS COST 1,500kr. They are personal, specific and detailed. I make a point of writing down exactly what I see; I don't change it in any way to make it easier to read. Every reading is longer than 2 A4 pages and takes at least two hours to write. I give each reading the respect it deserves and the time it needs, whether that's two hours or six. I've worked as a psychic, medium and healer for nearly thirty years, I love what I do, and I'm proud of it. If you'd like a reading, send me a message on Messenger and we'll take it from there. If you're feeling brave, Vipps to number 469 46 054 and send me a message afterwards. I work through each reading in the order it comes in. Hope your week's going well, Facebook folks!
