Marit has a problem, and I'm going to use her to make a point. If you want to know who Marit is, I'll tell you at the end.
Anyway, Marit got in touch yesterday with one of those problems that's buzzing round her head when she wakes up, and won't let go when she tries to sleep.
She doesn't want to talk about it with the people closest to her, because it would probably snowball into something she doesn't want. She just wants to share the secret, get some advice and fix the problem.
Yes, I know I'm being a bit cryptic, but the secret isn't the point of this post, so fill in the blanks yourself — or perhaps with whatever is churning around in your own head at night.
Marit's secret isn't world-shattering, but it's one of those that makes you think, "phewww, shit!". It's a deeply personal decision or feeling that just needs a safe harbour, a bit of understanding without a great fuss being made about it.
I've seen it countless times over the years — people who simply need somewhere to be heard without being judged. They want to be listened to, they want opinions, options, and most of all they want someone to "get it", to understand their situation.
When we're given room to let off a bit of pressure, we often find our own solutions. But sometimes it helps to get another perspective (a shameless, badly disguised advert for readings).
In Marit's case she couldn't share what was going on with the people around her, and so she came to me.
You all know I don't hold back. I say things as I see them, whether that's good, bad or ugly. Between looking at her situation with a psychic eye and also involving her (dead) sister, we managed to add some clarity, get underneath the surface noise and bring in some understanding, along with a large dose of realism.
Sometimes we just need another perspective, another way of looking at things. We need a bit of help untangling the ball of wool in our heads. It helps to get a perspective that's down to earth, honest, and that sometimes brings in what dead people might be trying to get across.
It isn't about magic wands or quick fixes; it's about finding a bit of clarity, often the sort that helps us see our own path more clearly.
I always make a point of laying out exactly what I see and feel — no dressing it up, just the plain, straight truth as it comes.
And if you're sharing something that weighs on you, you absolutely need to know it's safe. For me that isn't even up for discussion — it's a given. (It isn't unusual for me to sign an NDA before I start work on a reading — that's how seriously I take this.) What is shared with me stays with me. Always.
