Katarina cried, swore at me, and two years later said thank you

I get a lot of messages. A great many.

Yesterday I got a message from Katarina, who I gave a reading to nearly two years ago. All she wanted to say was thank you, and it very nearly made me cry.

Sometimes people book a reading because they want an answer to a problem or need clarity in a situation. Other times it is people who just need to share something and are looking for some kind of confirmation that everything is all right, or need to hear "just breathe, you have got this".

So "thank you" is perhaps not a big message. But this time it was.

I remember Katarina's situation well, which is unusual for me, and the reading I gave her was tough. Hard-hitting. As usual, I did not hold back. I was clear and honest about what she was doing to the people around her and the road she was on. There were a lot of uncomfortable details, and I held the mirror up close.

But I also showed her another road — a future that gave her what she wanted from life and changed her relationship with the people around her. A lot of her problems were based on the fact that she was not living the life she had expected for herself. She felt cheated, beaten and steamrollered, last in the queue for everything.

Anyway, the point is that after reading my words, Katarina says she cried, cursed me, and then forgot about the whole thing for a few months.

Then somebody mentioned my name in a conversation, and she opened the reading again. Her first reaction had passed, and she realised that some of what I had written was already happening. She also realised that she had started making some of the changes I had suggested, even though she had not been aware of doing it.

Katarina decided to take on more of what I had written, and she is now in a very different place in her life. She no longer works just to earn money, as she puts it, but has set up her own business, and she is in a different relationship — albeit with the same man.

So Katarina's thank you was for "kicking her in the balls" (her words, not mine) and showing her a way out. An alternative future.

I am not writing this to say look what I did, because it was Katarina who did all the work. I am writing to say that any of us can end up in a dead end. Very few of us are living the life we expected. But when we realise we are in that dead end, that is an opportunity to do something about it.

We cannot all be Elon Musk or Eva Gikling, but we are absolutely capable of making choices about our own lives to bring the things we want closer to us.
