I used to read people's lives in the froth on a pint of Guinness

I have just put the phone down on an old friend who reminded me that when I was a skint student, I used to read people's history from the froth on top of a pint of Guinness 😬

Yes.

It only worked if they bought the Guinness and I drank it, obviously.

It was a long time ago and I go red in the face thinking about it. But it does show that if we can distract our logical, ego-based mind with Guinness bubbles — or anything else for that matter — we can dip into the timeless, ever-present pool of energy that connects all of us.

When I teach people how to connect in order to see beyond the physical world, I often get them to hold a piece of jewellery, a watch, or something else somebody has used. It works in exactly the same way as a pint of Guinness. It gives them something to distract their eyes with while they connect to the energy of the object.

Anyone who is interested can do something similar at home.

Put ten different pictures into envelopes and shuffle them so you do not know which is which. Then pick an envelope and hold it in your hands.

Use your intuition. Ask yourself what you feel about the picture in the envelope, not what you think.

Does it feel like a picture of a person or a landscape? Was it taken indoors or outdoors? What was the weather like in the picture? If it is a person, does it feel like a man or a woman?

The list goes on. You can keep asking questions.

You are never going to get everything right. Nobody ever does. But that is not the point. The point is to train the side of you that feels things.

Sometimes it helps if somebody else asks you the questions and all you have to do is answer. Also, the longer you spend trying to answer, the more likely it is you will get it wrong. So give yourself ten seconds to decide what is in the picture, and move on.

Only open the envelopes once you have read several of them. My memory only lets me remember what I said about three envelopes — you are probably better than me.
