Anti-Meditator
I can't meditate. I just can't do it. My thoughts wander from "what are we having for dinner" to "did I remember to order new shoes for the horses," and much more. The messages I get from you lovely people on Facebook tell much the same story.
There’s simply too much noise! Well, at least it means your brain is working 😉
The myth of "perfect" meditation—the one where you sit in the lotus position for an hour in total silence—is just more noise. It's another example of how we follow other people's paths instead of figuring things out for ourselves.
These days, meditation for me isn't about sitting still and forcing everything out of my head. I can't focus on the flame of a candle, or chant "Om" for 10 minutes, let alone 60 minutes or more!
Instead, it's about simply stepping out of the hamster wheel and giving myself a few minutes to be present.
Whether it's walking out of the house to get the mail, or waiting in the car for my teenage son to finish playing Romeo to his Juliet. Or winding up a new ball of yarn that I've just spun myself (yes, I spin my own yarn).
Those small moments where there's a possibility for some kind of peace inside my head—that is my meditation.
You don't need to twist your legs into magical positions; you just need to become a bit more present for a few moments.
Watching your breath helps, and so does listening to the sound of the weather. But don't get carried away by it all. Everything is just noise until you notice that you're a bit more relaxed than you were a moment ago.
According to a dictionary on my computer (the source of much uselessness), meditation means: noticing thoughts; reflection; contemplation.
BORING!
My meditation is often about finding a little sliver of peace of mind—one that isn't filled with logistics, or children, or dinner plans, or why the h*ll I've received another parking fine!?
These days, we are bombarded by people and businesses telling us what to think.
So maybe thinking a bit less for a few moments is what we actually need.
Maybe we just need to turn down the volume on the consumer war raging against us, and realize that beneath all the noise, it's just "us." Simple, uncomplicated "us."
Maybe this makes me an anti-meditator (that's a new word that isn't in the dictionary on my computer... yet 😉).
So for you (if you want), and for me, meditation shall be about noticing "me." Noticing the little sliver of peace I get by being present in the moment, in my moment. And that’s it.
It’s personal, and private, and just "me" and just "you."
I hope you have a fantastic and peaceful week, beautiful people 😊
